KEEN Hybrid.STAND Awards $50,000 in Grants Following College Tour

As part of the KEEN Hybrid.STAND program, KEEN has awarded a total of $50,000 in $1,000 grants to sustainability-oriented organizations and projects across the nation.

Portland, OR – As part of the KEEN Hybrid.STAND program, which was designed to inspire and empower people who are taking steps towards sustainability, KEEN has awarded a total of $50,000 in $1,000 grants to sustainability-oriented organizations and projects across the nation.

A $1000 grant has been awarded to student-selected organizations on each of the 50 campuses that KEEN visited during its 2007 Hybrid.STAND college campus tour. Funds will be used to enhance the efforts of organizations working towards sustainability.

The KEEN Hybrid.STAND college tour featured a screening of the original documentary “STAND.” Hosted by musician G. Love, “STAND” showcases nine inspiring individuals who are pioneering ideas to support and promote sustainability and encouraging others to do the same.

The campus tour also encouraged college students to become more vocal and active in sustainability issues crucial to their college communities. In keeping with the initiative's urging of young people to ‘STAND – Up, Out and For' sustainability, students were invited to add their name and commitment to sustainability to a mosaic at the end of each event.

College students were also encouraged to participate in the STAND contest, which asked participants to share the steps they take toward sustainability through outdoor play, creative expression or activism. A total of $150,000 in grants will be awarded to contest winners. Winners, highlights and the Hybrid.STAND mosaic will be showcased at the Hybrid.STAND Festival in Portland, OR in June 2008.
