KEEN, Inc. – a leader in hybrid outdoor performance products and a company that is committed to sustainability – has announced its five primary Hybrid.Care partners for 2010. They are: American Whitewater, Big City Mountaineers, The Conservation Alliance, Leave No Trace and Waterkeeper Alliance.

“We are proud to continue our work with these five stellar organizations,” says Linda Tom, Marketing Manager at KEEN. “Each program facilitates the Hybrid.Care program mission, which is to support social and environmental organizations actively working towards the greater good. We're proud to be helping them achieve their important goals.”

Continues Tom, “Through our work with these partners in 2010, Hybrid.Care is increasing its international giving footprint, and is also driving additional focus to programs in our backyard, the Pacific Northwest.”

Hybrid.Care was created in 2004 to support social and environmental organizations that have paved the way for change through community, education and understanding. Since then, KEEN has partnered with more than 20 global environmental, conservation and social non-profit organizations, and has distributed more than $5 million.

About the 2010 Hybrid.Care Partners

American Whitewater (www.americanwhitewater.org)
American Whitewater restores rivers dewatered by hydropower dams, eliminates water degradation, improves public land management and protects public access to rivers for responsible recreational use.

A Hybrid.Care partner since 2006, they will use the funding from KEEN in 2010 for general support for work in the following three areas: restoring rivers, Pacific Northwest Wild and Scenic River designations, and the Colorado Stewardship Program for the Colorado Plateau and Southern Rocky Mountain Rivers.

“KEEN Hybrid.Care support is enabling American Whitewater to enhance and restore whitewater rivers across the country. These projects create a triple bottom-line; they reconnect local communities with their river, increase opportunities for enjoyment of the river and they restore lost habitat,” said Mark Singleton, Executive Director of American Whitewater.

Big City Mountaineers (www.bigcitymountaineers.org)
A KEEN Hybrid.Care partner since 2007, Big City Mountaineers is committed to enhancing the lives of under-resourced urban teens through transformative outdoor experience.

In 2010, funding received through Hybrid.Care will help establish a Pacific Northwest Program, provide matching funds for the Change a Life volunteer pledge campaign, and provide sandals for the Boundary Waters Program.

“Our friends at KEEN understand how powerful the wilderness is in creating possibilities for under-resourced teens,” said Syd Jones, executive director, Big City Mountaineers. “For four years, KEEN's strong partnership has helped Big City Mountaineers create the opportunity for underserved city teenagers to discover new potential in the outdoors, and in turn learn to care about themselves and those around them. It's the values of the KEEN HybridLife brought to those surrounded by concrete and sirens.”

Jones added, “Thanks to the support of KEEN, Big City Mountaineers will be able to get more urban teens outdoors in the Pacific Northwest, increase the safety of our BCM's Boundary Water expeditions with KEEN footwear – which are perfect for watersports – and use KEEN products to help motivate donors to participate in our fundraising campaigns.”

The Conservation Alliance (www.conservationalliance.com)
The Conservation Alliance's mission is to engage businesses to fund and partner with organizations to protect wild places for their habitat and recreation values.

For the sixth year in a row, Hybrid.Care funding will help support their Recruitment Challenge, as well as their general operating budget.

“Our partnership with KEEN has made The Conservation Alliance much more effective in our efforts to protect wild places throughout North America. We helped protect 10.5 million acres of land and 1000 miles of rivers in 2009, and could not have achieved those outsized results without KEEN's steady support,” said John Sterling, Executive Director of The Conservation Alliance.

Leave No Trace (www.lnt.org)
The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics is an educational, nonprofit organization dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors by all people, worldwide.

Leave No Trace has been a Hybrid.Care partner since 2005. This year's funding will help support community and state advocates programs, plus the development and first printing of the international skills and ethics reference cards and booklets.

“KEEN has been instrumental in Leave No Trace's ability to build a network of grassroots advocates and educators around the country. Through their Hybrid.Care program, KEEN continues to extend support and resources to ensure that this critical environmental education is available to all people, where they live and play,” said Susy Alkaitis, Deputy Director of Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics.

Waterkeeper Alliance (www.waterkeeper.org)
Waterkeeper Alliance provides a way for communities to stand up for their right to clean water and for the wise and equitable use of water resources, both locally and globally. The vision of the Waterkeeper movement is for fishable, swimmable and drinkable waterways worldwide through the Waterkeeper method of grassroots advocacy.

A Hybrid.Care partner since June 2009, the 2010 funding will help establish the WaterKeeper Water Life community outreach day and website.

“As a nonprofit, Waterkeeper Alliance is especially fortunate to obtain support from a forward-thinking company like KEEN, which is recognized for its ability to mobilize customers into taking action,” said Kristine Stratton, Executive Director of Waterkeeper Alliance. “By working together, we strengthen our shared voice in advocating for the rights of individual communities seeking innovative solutions to our environmental problems.”
