Josh Bean of Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort Makes "20 Under 30" List

Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR) announces that Josh Bean, LVSSR’s slope and maintenance manager, has been included in Ski Area Management (SAM) magazine’s 2011 “20 Under 30” list.

Las Vegas (July 14, 2011)— Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort (LVSSR) announces that Josh Bean, LVSSR's slope and maintenance manager, has been included in Ski Area Management Magazine (SAM) magazine's 2011 “20 Under 30” List . The ski industry publication recognizes young professionals in the industry for their dedication and notable contributions to an individual ski area and the industry.

Now through July 31, 2011, the public can vote to select a member of the “20 Under 30” list to be named this year's Top Young Gun. The voting takes place at

Bean, 30, has played an integral role in the development of LVSSR's Darkside Park, an all-terrain park that's garnered recognition from snowboarding publications, including Transworld Snowboarding and Australian Snowboarder. Bean is also the youngest person in the U.S. to achieve the title of lead gunner and program manager for the M101 Howitzer, a 105 mm gun used for avalanche control. Considering Bean's long history in the area, this honor isn't a surprise.

As Kevin Stickelman, LVSSR's president and general manager notes, “Josh grew-up at LVSSR, so he has a very intimate connection to the area. He's driven by his love for the area and a sincere desire to make each of our guests have the best experience. We are very fortunate to have Josh on our team and on behalf of LVSSR, I congratulate Josh on this honor.”

Bean is a native of Las Vegas and a graduate of Indian Springs High School. He launched his career at LVSSR with a summer job when he was just 13 years old. One could easily say this career path is more of a life calling; when Bean was very young, his father, Jack Bean, used to carry him on his back as he skied, until, at the age of two, the younger Bean was able to stand up on his own set of skis. Bean's father is LVSSR's director of mountain operations and his grandparents have lived near LVSSR in Lee Canyon since 1953.

“While it's a huge honor to be recognized as one of SAM's “20 Under 30”, like so many people at LVSSR, I strive to do my best out of my love for this sport and the lifestyle,” says Bean. “I'm lucky to have found something I'm passionate about that I could turn into a career.” Bean notes that while he's always had big dreams for the area, in the past few years he realized that he had the opportunity to make those dreams a reality. “When Powdr Corp. purchased the area in 2003, I knew that my job at LVSSR would become my career and that we'd have the support we needed to reach our goals.”

For Bean, that means creating the ideal snow experience – especially for the local community. “I'm excited to work hard and bring to fruition the projects that our community has been waiting for. I especially want to give the kids what they deserve: a place to learn and develop their skills,” he says. I'd like to thank my family for their support and everyone at LVSSR who is working toward realizing the vision of what our area can be – it's going to be an amazing season.

Off the snow, Bean enjoys spending time with his son Jace and his wife Stephanie. He is looking forward to meeting the newest member of the Bean family, expectant son Ryder.
