Jewelry Designer Bronwen Lodato Adds New Colors to HERA Necklaces

Jewelry designer Bronwen Lodato is adding three new color options—marina, teal and wine—for the Irish linen cord that strings together the HERA Lotus necklace. The piece gives 15 percent of proceeds back to the HERA Women's Cancer Foundation (Health, Empowerment, Research, Awareness), a nonprofit that raises money for ovarian cancer research and awareness initiatives. The necklace debuted in March 2008, shortly after Lodato discovered HERA at the Outdoor Retailer Tradeshow in Salt Lake City, Utah. Lodato will debut the new cord colors at the Winter Outdoor Retailer Show (booth #72) in late January. The original espresso cord color option is still available. Necklaces can be purchased at www.bronwenonline.com and are offered in silver for $59 or gold for $72.

The HERA necklace hangs a sterling silver or gold lotus flower just above the heart. Silver Bali beads are woven into the Irish linen cord, which forms a delicate circle around the neck. Along with these feminine designs, a spring-ring clasp with small tassels decorates the back of the neck.

A San Francisco–based designer, Lodato specializes in jewelry for women who love to travel and seek adventure. She finds much of her inspiration in the natural, organic world and the beautiful people who inhabit it. Lodato feels that one of a woman's greatest qualities is compassion, which she says is responsible for the success of the HERA Lotus necklace.

“When people learn about HERA and they see that the Lotus necklace supports an important women's health issue, it sells with ease,” says Lodato. “Adding the new colors is a way for us to keep the idea fresh. We want to offer women options to support HERA by wearing the Lotus, which symbolizes strength.” Each necklace comes with a card listing ovarian cancer symptoms and other information.

According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), ovarian cancer occurs in one in 72 women. In 2008, an estimated 21,650 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Currently, there is no reliable method of early detection, such as the mammogram for breast cancer. Funding scientific research is therefore vital in decreasing the number of lives lost.
