New brand of eco-focused lifestyle shoes launches on kickstarter ENCINITAS, CA - May 23, 2017


SAOLA, a new brand of eco-friendly footwear committed to environmental conservation, will pre-launch on Kickstarter on May 23rd, 2017. Made with recycled and organic materials, SAOLA hopes to raise $25,000 to help fund the first round of production of their “sustainable kicks that kick back.”

Led by outdoor industry veteran Guillaume Linossier, a small team of freelancers have been working on product and brand development over the last year in a half, both in the US and in France.

SAOLA’s collection of casual street shoes will be made from sustainable materials like recycled plastic bottles, cork, and organic cotton. But it is SAOLA’s “kick back” element – five percent of SAOLA sales will be donated to environmental conservation projects - that inspires Linossier most.

“As a lover of the outdoors, I spent years struggling to find a brand of shoes for everyday life that matched my values,” explained Linossier. “There are plenty of cool looking shoes out there, but not very many from brands with a sustainability commitment. I felt that by manufacturing smarter and using our business to support conservation efforts, we could really make an impact.”

When SAOLA Shoes hit stores in Spring ’18, customers will have the option to choose one of three pre-selected projects supporting land, water, and animal conservation that their purchase will support. While due to Kickstarter regulations this aspect of the brand will not be a part of the fundraising campaign, SAOLA will use the result of their campaign to gauge the consumer response of the brand.

“There are various reasons people back Kickstarter campaigns,” says Maro LaBlance, SAOLA Communications Manager. “But we’re hopeful that first and foremost, people will support SAOLA’s because they genuinely want to see a brand like this come to life, and that they want to be a part of it.”

As a startup with manufacturing limitations, the Kickstarter campaign will focus on one men’s and one women’s style, available in one color per style. However, if their $25,000 goal is met, an additional color per style will be unlocked. Kickstarter prices for the shoes are 20-25% off retail, with reward levels starting at $25. Pact Organic Clothing has partnered to provide socks for some contribution levels.

SAOLA’s Kickstarter campaign will run through June 28th, 2017.
