Rock climbers traveled from around the United States to Salt Lake City Sept. 13 – 16, 2007, for the sixth annual HERA Ovarian Cancer Climb4Life. The four-day climbing extravaganza attracted over 200 women, men and kids and raised just over $108,000 for ovarian cancer research. Featured events included two days of climbing with pro-athletes, yoga, parties and a film event. Participants who raised more than $750 took home thousands of dollars in prizes from the giant gear raffle. Top fundraisers receive special gifts.

Volunteer pro-athletes, including Chris Lindner, Joe Kinder, Katie Brown, Heidi Wirtz, Alli Rainey, Eric Scully and many others, spent two days climbing with participants. Guides from Exum Utah conducted learn-to-climb clinics for beginners of all ages.

The event's top fundraisers were Lara Usinowicz of Evergreen, Colorado, who raised $20,561.60; Marci Reardon of Oak Park, California, with $14,300; and James Nice of Los Angeles, with $9,976.36. Team Bury the Dragon, led by 32-year-old ovarian cancer survivor and climber Samantha Lockwood and composed of eight other climbers from the Philadelphia area, ranked first in team fundraising, bringing in $13,963.53.

Funds are used to support the HERA OSB1 Grant, awarded to ovarian cancer researchers at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas. The HERA Foundation also awards two HERA Community Grant awards annually to ovarian cancer groups around the United States.
