Headsweats, makers of high-performance, ultra-light, supremely wicking hats and visors, announces their partnership with Venus de Miles, Colorado’s only all-women road ride, for the second year. This year marks the fourth annual Venus de Miles ride, which is centered on the spirit of sisterhood and support for the Greenhouse Scholars.

The Venus de Miles ride will be held on August 28, 2011 and is for cyclists of all levels. Participants can choose among the rolling 100-mile ride, the calf-cramping 67-mile ride, the heart-pounding 51-mile ride or the 33-mile jaunt through the scenic countryside. Throughout the course there will be Men in Drag on hand to help with bike repair and motivational support.

“We are excited to continue our sponsorship of Venus de Miles for the second year in a row,” says Kay Martin of Headsweats who will also participate in the 2011 ride. “Greenhouse Scholars is a great organization and being a sponsor is our way of showing support for both the cycling community and for their cause.”

Greenhouse Scholars is a nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive personal and financial assistance to high-performing, under-resourced college students. Much of the support Greenhouse Scholars provides comes through mentorship, professional training and internship opportunities. The 50 recipients, mainly first-generation college students, are Colorado residents and attend colleges across the nation.

Since 2008, Venus de Miles has raised close to $206,830 for Greenhouse Scholars. This year, Whole Foods Pearl Street in Boulder, CO, donated 5% of their proceeds on July 27 to the non-profit and all the check-out staff wore Venus de Miles Headsweats hats during the fundraiser.

"This year promises to be our most exciting yet,” says Teresa Robbins, Greenhouse Scholars Director for Venus de Miles. “We're the first bike ride in the country to offer GPS technology and for the first time ever, three Scholars are riding in the event. With sponsors like Headsweats, we're poised to have a successful event.”
