AGOURA HILLS, Calif. (2/20/08) –Trash never looked so good.

Gramicci's eye-catching exhibit built entirely from recycled materials won the Best of Booth award in the new ‘Eco' category at the recent Outdoor Retailer Winter Market show in Salt Lake City. The Agoura Hills-based outdoor lifestyle apparel manufacturer was honored in the annual competition sponsored by Specialty News (SNEWS), which presents Best of Booth awards in six categories.

Created by California artist Mike Russek, who specializes in sustainable and recycled materials, the entire exhibit was composed of trash combed from the dumpsters of Los Angeles' garment district. The booth's traffic-stopping acrylic entry walls were adorned with plastic, fabric scraps and cardboard layered to resemble the sedimentary layers of the earth.

Inside, meeting tables were constructed of recycled agricultural products such as sorghum, resting on wooden sawhorses. The flooring was even recycled, comprised of reclaimed particleboard. To show the lifecycle of materials in art and form, concepts from Gramicci's workbook were incorporated into the overall image to illustrate the company's commitment to sustainable practices. Artwork was created live during the show using trash found during the event.

The design dovetails nicely with Gramicci's various initiatives to preserve the environment, including its extensive Greenicci collection of apparel made of 100% organic or recycled materials.

“Although Gramicci's booth was full of trash, it was the runaway winner of the newly created Eco BOB category,” SNEWS commented. While noting that there were other ecologically-minded booth initiatives, “no one accomplished a green booth quite like Gramicci's,” the publication added.

Marty Weening, president of Gramicci, agreed that artist Russek helped his company create a booth that was highly imaginative and enticing to show-goers. “This is our third art installation booth using predominantly sustainable and recycled materials,” he noted. “The blend of Mike's extraordinary artistic talent and Gramicci's environmental values continues to be a perfect match.”
