London, England. (July 13, 2009) – FMX star Robbie Maddison made history this week by performing a backflip over an open Tower Bridge in London, England. GoPro's best selling Motorsports HERO Wide camera went along for the joy ride and captured the amazing feat atop Maddison's helmet.
Maddison, a 28-year-old Australian daredevil and FMX legend, was the first motocross rider to take on the Tower Bridge. The famous British capital landmark was used as a take-off and landing ramp as its roadway was split in half and raised to create a huge gap over the Thames River. Despite Maddison busting out a no handed backflip over the gap, his trusty GoPro Motorsports HERO Wide camera filmed the jump from Maddison's helmet without a hitch.
The city's spectacle happened in the early hours of the morning. “Luckily there was no wind and the elements worked on my side,†said Maddison in a YouTube video.

Maddison, who is aptly sponsored by Red Bull, adds this historic jump to his list of records, including the world's longest ever motorbike jump (350 feet), and the highest ever vertical ‘step up' at the Arc de Triomphe replica in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve 2008.
“Red Bull USA called us last minute to see if we could help get one of our cameras to the UK to film the jump,†says GoPro founder and CEO, Nicholas Woodman. “We've worked with them a lot over the past year, always very exciting as Red Bull pushes the limits with their creative events. We're stoked the camera arrived on time and worked out so well for them. We want to throw a big shout out to Maddison and the Red Bull guys...we're always here for you!â€
