CHICAGO, and NEW YORK, Feb. 22 -- SELF magazine and Bally Total Fitness have partnered for the first-ever "SELF Challenge Day at Bally Total Fitness" on Saturday, March 4. The day-long event at 27 Bally Total Fitness locations nationwide launches the 10th annual SELF Challenge, the magazine's exclusive 12-week exercise and healthy eating plan that is featured in the March, April and May issues of SELF. Women of all fitness levels can take the Challenge and may lose up to 10 pounds per month!

The SELF Challenge is free, fun, fully customizable, easy to follow and all participants receive a complimentary trial membership to Bally Total Fitness. 700,000 women have done the SELF Challenge to date -- 250,000 in 2005 alone -- to achieve stronger, fitter, slimmer and healthier bodies. The 2006 program is the biggest, most exciting yet, with a quick fat-burning cardio routine, a strength training plan featuring innovative pairs of muscle-sculpting moves, and a no-deprivation low-calorie diet.

SELF's popular program premieres with a 14-page guide in the March issue, on newsstands February 21. Women can sign up at Self.com, where they'll find a free online exercise log, menu options, calorie trackers, daily prizes, motivational tools, buddy connections, instructional videos and a brand-new workout blog.

During the March 4 SELF Challenge Day at select Bally Total Fitness locations, attendees will sign up for the SELF Challenge via Self.com and receive a special 3-month membership pass to the club. Bally Total Fitness expert instructors will bring the SELF Challenge's recommended exercise moves to life with exclusive 20-minute Challenge group training sessions. Bally Total Fitness will also offer body fat testing and the opportunity to win great prizes including free personal training sessions. Participating locations include New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Boston, Dallas, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Detroit, Seattle and Miami.

All participating club locations are listed at Self.com and Ballyfitness.com. Anyone unable to attend can instantly download a free 30-day pass to Bally Total Fitness by signing up for the SELF Challenge at Self.com by March 31.
SELF Challenge fitness and nutrition guidelines:
* Three 30-minute cardio sessions per week
* Three 20-minute resistance training sessions per week
* A healthy eating plan featuring SELF's exclusive and flexible meal plan

The key to the SELF Challenge is a combination of healthy eating, which includes three balanced meals, plus snack and dessert daily, along with regular exercise, which can be done at home or now, free of charge at Bally Total Fitness.

"Each year the SELF Challenge inspires more and more women to boost their fitness habits and become healthier and happier," says Lucy Danziger, Editor- in-Chief of SELF. "While the plan is completely doable using the magazine and Self.com, we're thrilled that Bally Total Fitness will be the physical home of the 2006 SELF Challenge, offering SELF's 5.4 million readers the resources to make their Challenge experience even more effective and rewarding."

"Bally Total Fitness is committed to providing people with the tools they need to be healthy and fit," says Jim McDonald, Chief Marketing Officer of Bally Total Fitness. "We are excited to team up with SELF magazine for the annual SELF Challenge, and hope thousands of people will take advantage of all the Challenge has to offer, including free access to our clubs, as they make strides towards living a healthier lifestyle."
