Former President Bill Clinton will deliver a keynote address at IHRSA's 25th Anniversary International Convention & Trade Show, the association announced today. President Clinton will address convention attendees on the morning of Tuesday, March 21.

“We are absolutely delighted that President Clinton will be speaking to our organization,” said John McCarthy, Executive Director of IHRSA. “Throughout his presidency and beyond, President Clinton has championed the cause of health promotion, a large part of which has been focused on increasing awareness about the importance of physical activity.”

This year marks the ten-year anniversary of the first U.S. Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health, which was released during the Clinton presidency. The report, which called on Americans to make regular exercise a permanent part of their lives, has had a tremendous and lasting effect on the health and fitness industry. Rising numbers of health club members in the U.S. and beyond serve as a strong indication that the messages included in that report are still resonating.

In 2005, President Clinton joined the American Heart Association and Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.) in a joint initiative focused on preventing childhood obesity and creating healthier lifestyles for children overall. The initiative, which includes the engagement of the food, restaurant, exercise, and fitness industries to develop strategies that will lead to healthier eating and more exercise, is supported by the William J. Clinton Foundation (www.clintonfoundation.org <http://www.clintonfoundation.org> ), which President Clinton established after leaving the White House.

In addition to his work through The Clinton Foundation, President Clinton also serves as UN Special Envoy for Tsunami Relief.

Attended regularly by a full range of health club and manufacturer personnel, IHRSA's International Convention & Trade Show continues to be the fitness industry's premiere educational, networking and product showcasing event. Over 5,000 industry professionals are expected to attend the convention, while over 10,000 industry professionals are expected to walk through the trade show floor.

The International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) is proud to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2005-2006. Over the past quarter of a century, the not-for-profit association has established itself as the voice of quality and innovation for the global health, racquet, and sportsclub industry representing over 7,000 clubs in 74 countries, along with over 600 industry suppliers.
