PORTLAND, Ore.-- ENDoutdoor, a new sustainability company focused on designing outside gear, started by award-winning footwear designer Andrew Estey and business partner Ben Finklea, today announced the formation of the company and plans for its season one product line. Founded on a design philosophy that abandons the groupthink that athletes want more technology, ENDoutdoor will, in season one, reduces components, materials and manufacturing waste up to 59 percent when compared to other trail running footwear. END will introduce its 2008 line at the Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City, Utah, Jan. 22-26.

"The reality of today's market is that there are few renewable, sustainable or recycled material choices that can take the rigor and pounding of high performance footwear," said Andrew Estey, co-founder and creative director of ENDoutdoor. "Our mission is for all of our products to reach 100 percent renewable, sustainable and recycled material within 3-5 years."

The company also announced that it has hired renowned sustainability consultant Jon Blumenauer to audit the entire line including all aspects of the design, materials used and manufacturing.

"I am impressed that ENDoutdoor understands that consumers today are concerned with more than just how their footwear performs when worn," said Jon Blumenauer, founding partner of Hutani Sustainability Strategies. "Consumers are also concerned with the total product lifecycle -- how the product impacts the environment before, during and after use."

Working collaboratively with a handpicked, environmentally committed manufacturer and materials agent in China, ENDoutdoor will produce, in season one, a line of seven lightweight trail-inspired running/training shoes for both men and women.

"In reducing all complex parts and eliminating as many toxic substances from our designs as possible, we will be able to source materials closer to the factory, shorten production time and ultimately create a more lightweight product that will require less fossil fuel in transport to the retailer," Estey continued.

ENDoutdoor will be exhibiting at booth number 52002 at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market.
