Carlsbad Ca, May 20, 2010 — Eagle Creek, the leading maker of adventure travel gear, luggage and accessories for active, adventurous souls, is sponsoring a day of volunteering with ConservationNEXT’s Backyard Collective on Friday, May 21st at Escondido’s Elfin Forest Recreation Area. The purpose is to bring together local outdoor industry employees, families, friends and Conservation Alliance grantees for a day of working together while promoting environmental stewardship. The Backyard Collective gives participants a venue to get their “hands dirty” for the sake of land conservation.

ConservationNEXT is part of the Conservation Alliance, an organization of outdoor businesses whose collective contributions support grassroots environmental organizations and their efforts to protect wild places where outdoor enthusiasts recreate. Since its inception in 1989, the Alliance has contributed nearly $8 million to grassroots environmental groups, has helped save over 49 million acres of wildlands; 27 dams have either been stopped or removed; and has helped preserve access to more than 16,000 miles of waterways and several climbing areas.

Environmental conservation both locally and internationally is part of Eagle Creek’s DNA. A company of travelers, Eagle Creek seeks to promote responsible travel and giving back to places the employees and customers live, work and travel.

“The Backyard Collective is a home run event for us," said Steve Barker, founder of Eagle Creek and Conservation Alliance board member. “The day of volunteering allows us to partner with other members such as Ocean Minded in giving back to local organizations that create recreation opportunities for us and our customers."
