LONGMONT, Colorado – With grassroots feedback from the moms of Hike it Baby, Deuter has created the first women’s specific Kid Comfort kid carrier. With exceptionally low weight and ergonomics tailored to a woman’s frame, the new Kid Comfort Active SL is for mothers who hold their own and want a child carrier meant for them.

The birth of a women’s specific Kid Comfort came through a partnership between Deuter, known for its safe and secure kid carriers, and Hike it Baby, a national community giving new parents and their kids an opportunity to connect and enjoy the outdoors. As the collaboration continued to be successful, and Hike it Baby grew beyond expectations, founder Shanti Hodges and Deuter Marketing Manager Becky Marcelliano began seeing a pattern of users whose needs weren’t fully met by existing kid carrier offerings.

“One of the things I saw with Hike it Baby was that women wanted to wear frame packs, but they were intimidated by the bulk and weight,” said Hodges. “We have entered an era where women are hiking a lot with their children, and it's not always a family adventure where she has another adult to support her. Having a light pack like this creates space for longer adventures, carrying more gear and giving women confidence that they can put in serious miles with a baby in tow.”

With an adjustable torso length range, conically shaped hip belt and ergonomic, S-bend shoulder straps all designed specifically for women, the Kid Comfort Active SL reduces bulk and offers greater ease of use than ever before, all at a svelte sub-6 pound weight. ASTM and TUV certification mean that Kid Comfort Active SL is tested to meet a rigorous course of child safety specifications. And with a suspension system tied directly into the frame, the new Kid Comfort carries on Deuter’s long tradition of outstanding stability and carry comfort.

“Hike It Baby grew fast, and our kid carriers were a natural fit with the program,” said Marcelliano. “So when Shanti suggested creating a women’s fit, light-and-simple carrier for everyday adventure, we ran with it. After much collaboration in ideation and design, the Kid Comfort Active SL was born. I’m beyond pleased to see this come to life. Deuter has led the way in fit and comfort for many decades, and I’m proud that we as a company could tap into this trend to steer innovation.”

Kid Comfort Active SL boasts a firmly locking kickstand and sturdy aluminum frame with a broad platform that keeps the carrier upright when loading. Side entry allows older children to get into the seat by themselves, and a color-coded buckle system keeps the harness hassle-free and easy to use. A large stretch mesh compartment under the child’s seat carries all the essentials that come along with kids. Kid Comfort Active SL folds for easy storage and transport, with two large grab handles that make loading and unloading a snap. Chin and foot rests are washable.

MSRP is $240. Available accessories include sun shade and extra plush, large pillow. Kid Comfort Active SL is the first in a series of three new Kid Comfort carriers available in Spring of 2019 from Deuter.
