Darn Tough Vermont to Sponsor Special Olympics Vermont Winter Games and Penguin Plunge Fundraiser
– Darn Tough Outfits Winter Games Athletes and Rewards Top Penguin Plungers –
Northfield, Vermont (SNEWS) January 29, 2015 – Darn Tough Vermont, American manufacturer of the fastest growing collection of outdoor performance socks, has partnered with Special Olympics Vermont for the 2015 Penguin Plunge and Winter Games events. In honor of the 20th Anniversary of the Penguin Plunge, sponsor Darn Tough Vermont will provide complimentary pairs of wool socks to Plungers who raise $520 or more. Darn Tough will also outfit all 200 Special Olympics Vermont athletes who compete in the 2015 Winter Games.
The Penguin Plunge is Special Olympics Vermont’s largest annual fundraising event, raising nearly half of the organization’s annual operating budget. Nearly 1,500 people are expected to jump into Vermont’s icy lakes in North Bennington (Jan. 31), Newport (Feb. 1) and Burlington (Feb. 7) to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Vermont.
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Darn Tough. Because of their support, we are able to offer high-quality Vermont-made products to our Plungers and athletes” says Lisa DeNatale, President and CEO of Special Olympics Vermont.
Winter Games is one of SOVT’s largest competitive events, bringing together 200 athletes and 300 volunteers. Over three days, March 6-8, athletes ages eight through seventy+ will compete in snowshoeing, cross country skiing, alpine skiing, and snowboarding at Suicide Six in Woodstock, VT. Winter Games is the culminating event of the winter sports season and also an opportunity for athletes to qualify for national and international competition.
“It’s a great pleasure to continue our commitment and partnership with Special Olympics Vermont and we look forward to cheering everyone on during the Penguin Plunge and Winter Games,” says Ric Cabot, President and CEO of Darn Tough Vermont. “Like Darn Tough, the Special Olympics team is committed to our Vermont communities and they bring unrivaled enthusiasm and dedication to everything they do. We are inspired by the amazing athletes and thank them for being such incredible ambassadors.”
