Golden, Colorado, April 12 , 2019— Big City Mountaineers is currently registering hikers, climbers, and outdoor enthusiasts for 11 professional guided mountain adventures for its 2019 “Summit for Someone” program. Participants raise funds in support of Big City Mountaineers youth programs and, in exchange, receive a free guided trip on one of North America’s most iconic peaks.
All proceeds raised support the transformative wilderness experiences that BCM provides for under-resourced youth.
The Summit for Someone schedule kicks off next week when eight fundraisers take on the Mountaineers Route of Mount Whitney. More trips are scheduled through August, offering climbs from coast to coast. Each climb chosen is appropriate for all outdoor enthusiasts, regardless of fitness levels and mountaineering skills. The professional guides leading the trips all hold permits with land management agencies and are committed to helping participants maximize their experiences.
Bryan Martin, Big City Mountaineers’ Executive Director says, “Last year, Summit for Someone fundraisers raised over $250,000 for our youth programs. These funds allow us to provide free fully outfitted and professionally led backpacking trips, paddling excursions, and camps for kids who wouldn’t get the experience otherwise.”
Highlights of this year’s schedule are an climb of the Grand Teton and a professional leadership focused climb of Gannett Peak led by Earth Treks’ founder, Chris Warner. Other offerings include Mt. Shasta, Mt. Shuksan, the Presidential Traverse, and trekking in the Southern Appalachians.
Funds raised through Summit for Someone help to provide transformative wilderness mentoring expeditions to teens from youth agencies across the country. The curriculum at Big City Mountaineers strives to strengthen integrity, self-esteem, responsibility, decision-making abilities, and communication skills in close to 1,000 youth annually.
