LILLEHAMMER, Norway — Jessie Diggins of Afton, Minnesota, skated to victory Saturday at the FIS Cross Country World Cup event in Lillehammer, Norway. Aboard Salomon’s S-Lab Skate skis, 25-year-old Diggins won the 5K freestyle race in 12:40:03, giving her a second career individual World Cup victory.
"I'm so happy with my day today. My skis were great and I love this course,” says Diggins.
Following the victory, Diggins sits eighth in the overall World Cup standings.
“On race day, the surface was artificial, sugary snow at -4C. It was pretty complicated to pick the skis to race on, as we were testing six pairs on snow and all of them were testing similarly fast,” says Jason Cork, Diggins’ U.S. Ski Team wax technician.
Diggins’ choice on the day was a pair of S-Lab Skate Yellow skis, featuring the same G5 Zeolit Universal Base and Digital Dynamic Flex Control found in Salomon’s S-Lab Skate skis available to consumers. The S-Lab Skate Yellow features a low-riding, responsive camber that is moved forward for better acceleration and edge hold early in the skate stride on compact surfaces.
Diggins’ previous individual World Cup victory came in the 5K freestyle in Toblach, Italy, in January 2016, when she became the first U.S. woman to win the event at the sport’s top level. Following her 2013 team sprint world championship, Diggins represented the United States in the 2014 Sochi Olympics, where she finished eighth in skiathlon and 13th in the sprint.
“We’re so excited to have Jessie with the Salomon team, and to see her crushing her goals like this,” says Josh Korn, endurance marketing manager at Salomon USA. “She’s an incredible athlete and a great person, and it is so much fun watching her set new standards for American success in cross country.”
