Entire global supply chain for outdoor Industry’s leading natural insulation supplier meets third-party animal welfare standards

Montebello, California (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) —ALLIED Feather & Down has announced that 100% of its global supply chain is now certified for responsible sourcing by third-party agencies, achieving a long-time goal, beating by a few months its promise to accomplish this important milestone by 2017.

ALLIED, the outdoor industry’s leading supplier of natural insulation, and a major player in home fashions, can now say that 100% of its global supply chain has been certified by third-party agencies according to a litany of rigorous standards to ensure all ALLIED down is procured from humanely treated birds. Over 75% of all of ALLIED’s down is already certified through the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), with over 3% through NSF’s GlobalTraceable Down Standard (TDS); a small number of extremely robust, brand-specific sourcing and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives – all audited and certified through third parties – accounts for the rest.

Even when it is not readily noticeable to the consumer per a particular brand’s marketing strategy, all down coming from ALLIED comes from certified supply chains.

“Hitting the milestone of 100% third-party certification for our entire supply chain for all our partners big and small has long been among our biggest goals, and we couldn’t be prouder to have accomplished it, even before our aggressive goal of 2017,” says ALLIED’s President Daniel Uretsky. “There’s still plenty of work to be done in this arena, and we’ll continue leading this charge globally, but this is a huge milestone for ALLIED and its partners and consumers. We are always looking for new supply chains and will move forward to certify each new one we choose to work with.”

The comprehensive standards of these agencies ensure that, among many other qualifications:

  • ALLIED never uses down plucked from live animals
  • Animals are never confined in tight spaces and all animals have been treated in accordance to Brambell’s Five Freedoms of animal welfare
  • Animals are never force fed.

While 100% of their supply chain is now certified, ALLIED still has some clients who choose not to carry certification forward and market it throughout their product lines, so there are still down products from certain brands containing material from ALLIED’s supply chain that are not certified; this is generally due to the considerable financial and administrative commitments.

But ALLIED is working closely with all organizations and supply chain partners to help remedy this in the future so all brands can easily and cost-effectively deal entirely and exclusively in certified responsibly-sourced product, and carry that message forward to the end user.

“It has always been our goal here at ALLIED,” continues Uretsky, “that ALLIED down becomes synonymous with responsibly sourced, sustainably processed, and premium quality down.”
