Since the launch of Mammut's Pulse Barryvox avalanche transceiver streamlined digital signal-separation technology for multiple burial searches, a number of very high-profile guiding services have been employing the new technology to provide their clients with enhanced safety for snow travel. Alaska's Chugach Powder Guides (CPG) is the latest to adopt the Pulse Barryvox for their entire beacon fleet, outfitting their heli-skiing clients and guides with Mammut's user-friendly, three-antenna units.

"When we first got these beacons I took a guest who had never seen or used one before, and he found three randomly buried beacons in under seven minutes," said Clark Fyans Lead Guide and Heli-Operations Manager for Chugach Powder Guides. "Not only are the Pulse Barryvox
transceivers the simplest and easiest for clients to use, but they are also an upgrade in safety, and the best of the best for our professional guides."

In partnership with Mammut, Chugach Powder Guides will have an in-house Pulse Barryvox Tester on site for beacon synchronization, allowing them to provide their clients with an enhanced security level through better maintenance and configuration of their beacon fleet.

“The enhancements to the Pulse allow a group to communicate more effectively in a multiple burial scenario, which is exactly what mountain professionals need to increase efficiency in case of an avalanche,” said Mike Welch, National Sales Manager for Mammut Sports Group USA. “Chugach Powder Guides is respected for having provided its clients a safe backcountry powder experience in some of the world's most incredible terrain for many years. The professional guides at CPG will be using the Pulse Barryvox on a daily basis, which underscores the confidence that mountain experts have in the new technology and features developed by Mammut. Taking that one step further, their clients will be using the Pulse, which speaks of the user-friendly features and simple interface that have made the Barryvox series of beacons so popular.”

Designed with a team of Swiss engineers over the course of several years, Mammut's Pulse Barryvox was developed with a third antenna for increased accuracy and with the goal of providing rescuers with a transceiver that is fast, easy, and effective to use in a complicated search scenarios. The third antenna allows for smooth, precise pinpointing at short range as well as in deep burial situations. It is the first 3-antenna transceiver with both digital and analog modes, and the first transceiver to communicate pulse and respiration information to rescuers.

The Pulse Barryvox is also the first transceiver to point to the location of the buried subject correctly even as the rescuer is moving away, eliminating the common “180-degree” flip-flop error because the display arrow points to the location of the buried subject in 360 degrees at all times.

Additional features of the Pulse Barryvox intended to increase rescue efficiency include the simple directional display for pinpointing utilizing the third antenna, automatic signal separation allowing the user to select and search for one signal at a time turning difficult multiple burials into a series of simple single-burials.
