AKU Footwear, known for designing and producing some the world’s most comfortable Italian-crafted hiking and trekking boots, has added several new boot styles that feature the company’s proprietary Elica Natural Stride System technology to its 2018 collection. These boots are specifically designed to adapt to normal heel and forefoot inclination to ultimately reduce impact and strain on the foot and provide an even distribution of foot pressure.

“The Elica technology was introduced last year and has been so well received by our customers we’ve incorporated it into all of our new styles for 2018,” said Sam McCoubrey, AKU’s General Director. “There is an AKU boot for all types of outdoor activity ranging from multi-day backpacking excursions to day hiking in the Rockies or Smokies.”

The Elica Natural Stride System is an integrated footbed design that is a result of extensive research in foot stride. The system starts with an anatomical last (foot mold) that best represents the true shape of the foot. From there, the insole board, midsole and outsole has been designed to adapt to normal heel and forefoot inclination during the stride to reduce impact and strain. The result is an asymmetrical sole design that offers more shock absorbers on the outward part of the heel where the foot strikes the ground and on the big toe area that is the propulsion zone. The lugs on the tread under the ball and toe area protrude outwards to increase contact surface and evenly distribute the push-off force.
