In August, adidas invites international stars from the bouldering and sport climbing scene to a second edition of adidas ROCKSTARS at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart/Germany. In addition to a high-profile line-up of athletes and a myriad of partnerships, adidas demonstrates its ongoing commitment to outdoor sport. Bouldering athletes who are not from the professional camp have an opportunity to win a wildcard to compete with the professionals in the GORE-TEX “Be a Rockstar” competition.

"Apart from our exciting international line-up of nearly 100 athletes, we are involved in a wide range of outdoor events. That's why last year, in addition to the adidas Sickline Extreme Kayak World Championship, we developed a new format for bouldering events,” explains Axel Burkhardt, adidas Global Sports Marketing Manager for Olympic sports, cycling and outdoor. "Working closely with our athletes we have created an attractive platform for the world's best in bouldering, including amateurs." With the new event location in Stuttgart - the capital of the state of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany - adidas wants to attract climbing and bouldering fans, as well as a wider public interested in sport from surrounding areas.

At this event the spotlight is on the athletes, both professionals and amateurs alike. For the second year the “Who's Who” of the international bouldering and World Cup scene are set to make an appearance. Famous names include last year's winner Dmitry Sharafutdinov (RUS), Sasha DiGiulian (USA), Juliane Wurm (GER), Akiyo Noguchi (JPN), Alexey Rubtsov (RUS), Katha Saurwein (AUT) and Mélissa Le Nevé (FRA). The participants battle through a qualifying round and the semi-final to win one of the six spots in the final. The final K.O. round reveals the two best athletes who then tackle the same climb in the Super Final without being able to see each other. The first athlete to solve the boulder and reach the top is the winner of adidas ROCKSTARS 2012.

Both days will see amateur bouldering athletes solving eight different problems as part of the GORE-TEX “Be a Rockstar” competition to win a wildcard for the professional event. The three best men and women also enter the final of the amateur competition, where they bolt their own boulders with professional athletes with whom they then go head-to-head on the rock.
