adidas Outdoor, the athletic brand in the outdoors with highly focused performance footwear and apparel for men and women, is seeing strong results with its footwear line, especially the technical terrex fast r and the Boat CC Lace, a fresh approach to water shoes that boasts bold colors, drainage ports and street style.

“We seem to have hit a nerve with retailers by providing a clear point of difference,” said Greg Thomsen, managing director of adidas Outdoor, North America. “Our designs draw upon our athletic heritage and a younger, faster look that not only connects with outdoor enthusiasts but also with consumers in general, who are looking for something new and fresh. Spring 2013 continues this approach, the result of our ongoing conversations with athletes around the world that provide input to our designers.”

Developed for outdoor athletes looking for a light, stable and, at the same time, fast hiking boot, the terrex fast r uses a rubber compound on the outsoles that was developed with category leader Continental rubber, increasing traction by 30 percent. The fast r, with its proprietary 3D FORMOTION, is designed to excel during controlled descents, while the shaped heel cap provides an excellent fit for greater stability.

“adidas Outdoor provides us with a fresh offering,” said Will Manzer, CEO of Eastern Mountain Sports. “The brand identified a sweet spot where there was a void and has found great success. Our customers appreciate the focus on technical design, but also like the lifestyle appeal. We were the first outdoor retailer to buy the Boat CC Lace and have seen a great reception.”

The colorful, versatile Boat CC Lace combines superior function and style for kayaking, sailing and other water sports applications. Its proprietary outsole features the adidas Drainage System (a.D.S.) and TRAXION® sole for wet and slippery conditions. A CLIMACOOL® upper provides moisture transport and enhanced ventilation, while an EVA tongue enhances fit and comfort.
Other styles that are exceeding forecasts at retail are the fast x series and the award winning Hydroterra Shandal, which recently won an Outdoor Industry Award at the Outdoor show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, on July 12.

About adidas Outdoor: adidas Outdoor is the athletic brand in the outdoors. The company's founder, Adi Dassler, designed equipment solutions for athletes that improved their performance. The long history of adidas Outdoor began in the 1970's with the creation of the first light trekking shoes. Climbing legend Reinhold Messner helped adidas design super light and fast approach hiking shoes for his first Everest ascent without supplemental oxygen in 1978. The tradition continues today with products influenced by Messner, as well as Alexander and Thomas Huber and many additional extreme outdoor adventurers from around the world.
