Announces 2014 Medicines Global Outdoor Youth Ambassador Sponsorship
to ‘Get Kids Moving’
Los Angeles, CA. May 16, 2014 ~ adidas Outdoor is sponsoring Medicines Global for the third consecutive year. The 2014 programming
theme is ‘Get Kids Moving’ and the adidas OUTDOOR fiscal and product sponsorship will help do just that. Medicines Global Outdoor
Youth Ambassador (MGOYA) programs work in collaboration with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the Los
Angeles Police Department to provide wilderness experiences for urban youth.
The adidas OUTDOOR sponsorship is making the launch of a new MGOYA program possible with the Los Angeles Unified School
District’s OPTION High Schools. OPTION High Schools are small campuses on LAUSD high schools, with low student-to-teacher
ratios, offering instruction to students between the ages of 15 and 18 who are deemed at risk of not completing their education.
On May 22nd, Medicines Global will be taking thirty Walt Whitman OPTION High School students to Point Dume (Malibu) for a hike,
whale watching and a beach picnic sponsored by Whole Foods Market. Many of these students have never had wilderness experiences
even though the Pacific Ocean and the local mountain areas may be no more than 10 miles away.
There are approximately sixteen OPTION High Schools on LAUSD campuses. The work Medicines Global does this spring and over the
course of the 2014-2015 academic year at Walt Whitman OPTION High School, will serve as a model to expand the MGOYA
programs into other OPTION High Schools throughout the Los Angeles area.
"For more than a decade I have followed Medicines Global’s innovative national and international programs created to encourage
adventure travelers to deliver basic first aid supplies to places they visit. Greg Thomsen and I, here at adidas Outdoor, are excited to
support Medicines Global with their unique programming to ‘Get kids Moving’ in the wilderness.”
~ Larry Harrison, adidas OUTDOOR, Director of Sales.
