(Salisbury Beach, MA) — The 2nd annual Atlantic Paddle Battle Race Series on Salisbury Beach kicks into high gear on Saturday, June 30, with a double-header paddle board competition. Hosted by the nonprofit Atlantic Paddle Boarding Association (APBA), and presented by REVO Sunglasses, participants in this summer-long, standup paddle board (SUP) six-race series will compete to win a $20,000 cash purse and other prizes. Additionally, a distinctive new award, The REVO Cup, will be presented to the overall series winner in the Elite Division. Registration is open now for men and women in Elite and Open Recreational race categories, as well as for Youth Under 17, at atlanticpaddleassoc.org and at www.boardliving.com (on-site registration day of races is also available).

A cross between surfing and kayaking, standup paddle boarding (SUP) is the newest wave in open ocean recreation. Originating in Hawaii, standup paddle boarding engages the body's core strength and balance to propel oneself with a long paddle while standing on a SUP surf board through ocean waves and currents. The nonprofit Atlantic Paddle Boarding Association (APBA) was created in 2011 to share the fun and excitement of the sport. Salisbury Beach has become a surf and SUP destination with lessons and board rentals available during the summer on the beach (starting in mid-June).

The 2012 Atlantic Paddle Battle Race Series will be held the following Saturdays, weather permitting (all races take place at Salisbury Beach unless otherwise noted): June 30 (2 races), July 14, August 4 (at York Beach, ME), and September 1 (Finals). Registration begins at 8:00 am; Elite Races starts at 10:15 am; Open Recreational and Youth Races follow.
SUP Surf contests will also take place on race days following the paddle battle with judges awarding $500 in cash prizes to the “best of the best” in this paddle surfing competition.

Competitors will vie for cash and product prizes, and The REVO Cup, offered by presenting sponsor Revo Sunglasses, that will be awarded at the season's final race. Series sponsors also include Bud Light, SurfSide5, Blue Ocean Music Hall, Kialoa, Creatures, Teva, h2O Audio, KB Coffee & Bagels, Standup Journal and Board Living.
