The irony of this photo being passed around last week by email doesn't have to be pointed out (you won't be able to see the photo in the Digest, only online). But you gotta laugh. Or maybe cry. There are 15 steps beside the escalator. And these two gents – very likely a whole heck of a lot more folks on their way into the 24 Hour Fitness at the top – couldn't bother to start their workout early but instead chose the moving stairs. Granted, one looks as if he's walking up the moving stairs, so we'll crack him a break. But puuul-eeeze!
We hear this setup really isn't so unusual. One recipient of this told SNEWS that her old gym actually had a tram (ohmigawd) from the parking area to the gym door. And, if that weren't enough, an elevator inside so people could get to the various levels easier (even if it were only three). OK, for handicap access or for seniors, the features are required and necessary. However, why able-bodied folks jaunting in for a workout don't stay off the moving stairs, trams, elevators and other energy-saving devices when they are there to, well, burn energy, is beyond us. Perhaps they're saving energy in the hope they'll get more out of their StairMaster experience? Or not.
"America," said another recipient quite sarcastically, "is a wonderful place."
Yet another example highlighting why much of the world finds reasons to laugh at America. And why the population is getting so fat.
