Star Trac hires Kevin Lamar to lead consumer division

Star Trac has named Kevin Lamar vice president and general manager of the company's consumer division. Lamar is the former president and CEO of Lamar Health, Fitness & Sports, which closed its doors Sept. 4. Lamar is also a former president and COO of Nautilus.

Star Trac has named Kevin Lamar vice president and general manager of the company's consumer division. Lamar is the former president and CEO of Lamar Health, Fitness & Sports, which closed its doors Sept. 4. "I have always viewed Star Trac as one of the better companies in the industry," Lamar told SNEWS® before the official launch of the relationship at the Interbike show in Las Vegas, Sept. 26-28. "What we can do from a retail perspective can be phenomenal. We can take some of the product development used in the commercial setting and bring some of that technology in the retail market."

"Kevin Lamar is now part of the Star Trac family," Randy Bergstedt, vice president of global marketing, told SNEWS®. "This will help kick-start Star Trac into the consumer category. We're excited about building that relationship with the key accounts, IBDs and specialty retailers."

In 2006, as Star Trac prepared to make its big push into the consumer market, it hired Scott Eyler to lead the consumer division. Eyler and Star Trac mutually agreed to part ways the end of August.

Lamar said that the Star Trac consumer division would include several former employees of Lamar Health, Fitness & Sports, including Al Cockrill, Chuck Sikora, Bill Glenn, Andy Baker and Kevin O'Brien. According to the Star Trac press release, Lamar and his team "were hired to aggressively grow Star Trac's consumer division."

In addition, Star Trac announced that its former marketing manager, Jeff Meeks, has been promoted to director of marketing for the consumer division.
