SNEWS® Live: Both amateur and professional athletes across the country compete in a variety of races every year. Triathlons, 10Ks, marathons and cycling criterions draw men and women by the tens of thousands. Some are in contention for prize money, most struggle to achieve a performance goal, but those involved in Athletes for a Cure race to save lives.

Pro athletes like Floyd Landis, Dean Karnazes, Dave Scott and Karen Smyers dedicate their races to raising money to fight prostate cancer, a disease that infects one in six American men. Citizen athletes participate as well, making their involvement in an event truly mean something by making sure all their hard work goes toward a good cause.

At the 2007 Teva Mountain Games in Vail, Colo., SNEWS® Live spoke to Athletes for a Cure President Scott Zagarino to learn more.
