Looking to build upon the strong fashion reputation he has garnered in the outdoor industry, Michael Hodgson, former co-publisher of SNEWS, an outdoor trade publication, today assumed the title of publisher at GQ, a worldwide respected men's publication. Hodgson's first project will be the development of special segment called "Hip Hop, Flip Flop," a comprehensive look at the role that the irreverent shoe has played in fashion history.

"I was so intrigued with the new Vibram flip flop, I knew right then and there I had to cross the line," said Hodgson. "When I saw the rainbow of bright colors, including orange crush, lemon lime and boo hoo blue, I knew this job was for me. Beside, I have a number of outfits that would match."

Hodgson originally wrote about the Vibram flip flop in the March 24, 2003, edition of SNEWS when he commented on the uniqueness of having a kitten heel on the originally flat product.

"I have always had a secret love for shoes and apparel," Hodgson continued. "Staying on top of the key fashion trends has always been a priority. All one has to do is to look in my closet to see how closely I track what is happening in the world of fashion. Now you know where Ralph Lauren got his inspiration."

SNEWS will now be edited solely by Therese Iknoian, Hodgson's wife. To reflect the founder's new public passion, the weekly trade publication will include a weekly column called "From the Fashion Trenches" and "SNEWS Fashion Dos and Don'ts." Hodgson will provide the editorial content from his new New York office located in Soho.

"We love having Michael on our side," said Tommy Hilfiger, the established designer. "We knew he would see the light."

SNEWS View: OK, we (Hodgson) deserved that and we share it with you as our tribute to April Fools! Thanks to Chris Goddard of CGPR who penned the missive poking fun at our take on the fashion flip flop. Hodgson a fashion maven? Please. He can't even get dressed without consultation unless the ensemble involves hiking books, shorts and a technical T.
