Acting on a fund-raising idea tossed out by Fran Farrell, publisher of National Geographic Adventure, eight outdoor industry publications have donated one full page and one one-third page color ad to The Conservation Alliance's Ads for the Earth benefit auction.
The magazines offering up ad space on behalf of The Conservation Alliance include Backpacker, Canoe and Kayak, Climbing, GearTrends®, National Geographic Adventure, Outdoor Business, Outside and Sierra.
One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale will go directly into the Alliance's fund to support conservation groups in their effort to protect North America's wild places.
John Sterling, executive director of The Conservation Alliance, told SNEWS®, "We saw this ad fund-raising program as an ideal way to generate additional money to use to help save wild places, while at the same time potentially offering each of our 120 member companies an opportunity to realize a great value in obtaining prime ad placement in key industry publications."
To view the auction catalog and place what might be a winning bid for a full-page ad, go to www.readysetauction.com/auctions/conservationalliance, then click the "View Auction Catalog" button on the left side of the home page, or the "Catalog" tab on the top of the home page. Bidding ends on Jan. 12, 2007, at 5 p.m. PST.
SNEWS® View: This is your opportunity to support The Conservation Alliance while increasing your brand visibility -- talk about a perfect win-win. Yeah, you have to be a member, but why let not being a current member stop you? Sterling tells SNEWS® that all a company has to do is become a member by the auction deadline date and a full page ad at a sweet price could be yours.
The Conservation Alliance is hoping to raise $200,000 from the auction. While the auction company is charging the group a percentage fee for its service (hmmmm, seems the auction company isn't seeing the big picture here), Sterling also tells us that he is hoping another company will step up and make a maximum $5,000 donation to cover the fee that might be charged if $200,000 is reached. We are proud to be able to support this auction, both as a member company, and as a publisher donating ad space.
