The company recently announced that after 28 years, Byrne would leave his post at the Woodinville, Wash.-based fitness equipment manufacturer.

“Over the past 35 years, I have been fortunate to have been part of an industry that has contributed to the well being of so many people, and to have spent 28 of those years at Precor has been beyond fortunate,” Byrne said in a statement. “It has been an immeasurable gift. I will retire with great pride in what we have accomplished and with eager anticipation of what lies ahead.”

Under Byrne's tenure, Precor went from a $20 million manufacturer of home rowing machines in the U.S. to a $350 million global supplier of home and commercial fitness equipment. Precor also introduced the Adaptive Motion Trainer and developed a line with networked fitness equipment, utilizing Preva, while he was at the helm.

Prior to joining Precor, Byrne co-founded Concept 90, a chain of fitness retail stores that helped grow and develop the concept of specialty retail in the United States. He joined Precor in 1985 as vice president of sales and marketing, and ultimately moved up to president.

The company announced that parent company Amer Sports' board of directors unanimously had approved Barker as the new president of Precor. Barker joined the Precor team in 1995 as its U.K sales and marketing manager, and has been in his current post for the last five years.

Barker is beginning his transition now, and plans to relocate his family from the U.K. to the United States this summer.

“I congratulate Paul on his strong career and admire his extraordinary efforts in shaping Precor into the world-leading company that it is today,” Barker said in a statement. “It has been my good fortune to work closely with Paul for many years, and to see first-hand how Precor has, under his stewardship, innovated entirely new categories of fitness equipment and services like the EFX, AMT and Preva. It will be a pleasure to work with our employees worldwide to continue the Precor legacy of innovation.”
