Let’s celebrate digital media.
The Outdoor Media Awards developed out of a desire to celebrate digital journalism in an age where outdoor media producers face new challenges that threaten the integrity of reporting. Despite these challenges, publications, editors, and authors in outdoor have been steadfast, reporting on meaningful stories in an accurate, fair and entertaining manner.
These leaders in digital publishing have led to a resurgence of opinions, advocacy pieces, and generally good storytelling that is told beyond ink on paper. Mediums such as podcasts, YouTube channels, blogs, and even, social media posts are shaping public opinion, even policy — outdoor industry issues such as public lands advocacy, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). These digital works deserved to be acknowledged and celebrated.
Comprised of three categories (Publication, Article, and People) with seven awards per category, the Outdoor Media Award program is in its second year and is part of the Outdoor Blogger Summit.
Nominations are a public process; nominees are then judged and voted on by a panel of distinguished digital journalists on the Summit’s steering committee including Kraig Becker, Jenny Willden, Stephen Regenold, Tyler Benedict, and others.
This year’s winners will be announced at the Outdoor Blogger Summit 2018 in Roanoke, Virginia on October 16, 2018. Winners will receive bragging rights, an official digital Outdoor Media Award 2018 certification badge for utilization in their websites and publications, a commemorative Virginia is for Outdoor Lovers T-shirt, and other TBD prizes.
Do you know a person, article, or digital publication who should be recognized for their work? Deadline to nominate is Wednesday October 10. Self nominations are encouraged.
