No, Buck Knives is not getting into the porn market

Imagine the surprise of a dealer who, when calling 800-328-2825 and thinking he was getting Buck Knives' customer service, instead found himself connected to a lusty voice that greeted him with, "Hello honey, looking for hot talk? Me and my girlfriends can't wait to get down with you…" For 69 cents per minute, he was told, he could have a conversation with any Intimate Encounters girl he desired. Yep, he'd reached 800-VERY-DEEP -- thousands of light years from Buck headquarters, we assure you.

Yep, he'd reached 800-VERY-DEEP -- thousands of light years from Buck headquarters, we assure you.

Seems that a Buck Knives Product Zone ad in the 2006 GearTrends® Winter magazine provided to GearTrends® by Buck's agency featured a toll free number that was close, but not quite correct. Needless to say, Intimate Connections was probably very pleased with all the additional business and Buck was left wondering why so few responses.

And no, this is not an outdoor industry porn first. SNEWS® remembers when Outdoor Retailer's own website was hijacked by a porn site years ago, giving folks who typed in www.outdoorretailer.com an eyeful that left a few wondering if Outdoor Retailer was perhaps defining the outdoor market a bit too broadly?

At any rate, the lovely soul at Buck's agency told us that darn it all, she was apparently confused, having just completed her job application with Intimate Encounters. The company pays the best for "amateurs," we were told.

"I had to do SOMETHING with all those years of radio training. Keep your ears peeled for Bunny Tetons...."

For the record, Buck's correct number is 800-326-2825. And no, the company isn't going to start charging dealers 69 cents per minute either.
