Health & Fitness Business ’11: Early morning workouts, extended hours, exhibitor list grows… and more

Due to its second co-location with Interbike, a growing audience is allowing management to expand hours, workouts, parties and education for the 2011 Health & Fitness Business Show. As the exclusive media sponsor, SNEWS has the details.

Due to its second co-location with Interbike, the Health & Fitness business show has a growing audience, and that is allowing management to expand a few opportunities and activities – including ones that interact with Interbike’s cycling community – all of which may be helping to attract additional exhibitors.

"For HFB 2011, we've created additional ways for the retail fitness and cycling industry to interact,” said show director Andy Tompkins. “From educational seminars, integrated show floors and networking events, retailers will be able to consider new product lines for sales growth which will benefit exhibitors on both show floors."

Morning yoga workouts and traditional early morning workouts will take place for both cycling and fitness attendees on the Health & Fitness Business show floor on the first and second days of the Sept. 14-16 show in Las Vegas at the Sands Convention Center.

“In addition to re-introducing early morning workouts this year, the HFB show floor will showcase yoga sessions taught by Diane Lees, who also happens to be a retailer,” said Tompkins. Lees owns a store in Chesterland, Ohio, called Daily Yoga and Hubbub Custom Bicycles.

Plus, the full lineup of business education and retail seminars will be available to all HFB attendees too. The list will be available in July for your planning, and SNEWS will let you know the details.

Exhibitors, parties and other fun stuff

In addition to all the companies mentioned in the last SNEWS show update story May 4 (click here to see that story, which includes a floor plan for the new layout), others that have joined the lineup include Euro Fitness, Fitter International, Precor, Torque Fitness and Valor Athletics. Attending a show also means networking – sometimes with a beer or beverage in hand. A couple of opportunities:

>> An HFB/SNEWS happy hour will be Sept. 14, co-sponsored by Diamondback Fitness, 4-6 p.m. in the “SNEWS/HFB Community Hub,” a lounge and meeting area near the show’s entrance.

>> An Industry Welcome Party will be Sept. 13 at Lavo (in the Palazzo tower next to the Venetian and Sands) the night before the show opens its doors, 9-11 p.m.

Also in the Community Hub, SNEWS will play episodes, new and old, of its popular SNEWS TV. The SNEWS crew will be roaming the show looking for product intros, trends and topics to film in partnership with the HFB show. Show days and hours

This year, the show returns to a three-day format, from its two-day run since 2008. That year, when the show was still in Denver, it was down-sized since attendance had dwindled. But this year, Tompkins said, management decided to accommodate those retailers – both bike and fitness -- who said they like a third day when they can spend the time just wandering and looking for new things, sans appointments with regular suppliers.

Despite discussing a shorter third day, the show is keeping the hours the same – 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“We understand that the retail fitness community makes a significant investment in showcasing product at Health & Fitness Business, and we are committed to providing the best ROI possible,” Tompkins said. “We also want to provide dealers with the maximum opportunity to meet with brands, see product, garner business education, and network.”

He said the change will give cycling retailers – 1,000 of whom said they carry fitness and another 1,000 who said they are interested in it – more of a chance to get into the HFB show for a look.

“Providing more time for the audience to interact will increase networking and synergy opportunities,” he added.
