Hearty SNEWS®-applause for the nine members of the Boulder Luna Chix Ambassador team who logged approximately 1000 volunteer hours in 2004 to reach out to the Denver and Boulder, Colo., communities to get more women involved in mountain biking and raise money and awareness for the Breast Cancer Fund.

The Colorado Luna Chix are comprised of a nonpartisan team of ex-Olympians (like Ann Trombly), retired pros (like Susan DiBiase, now working at Nautilus), and citizen bike racers who now have careers in the outdoor, fitness, and publishing industries and are committed to giving back to the community.

Ann Obenchain, PR and marketing queen at Kelty and also a Luna Chix chick, told SNEWS® that the Colorado group raised over $17,000 in 2004 through a variety of events, including four mountain bike instructional clinics for women (each attracted more than 75 students); a wine-tasting and silent auction at the home of Kim and Demetri Coupounas, owners of GoLite; and other programs like a Sweat for Humanity day with Core Power Yoga.

This is the group's third year as official Luna Chix Ambassadors and their fifth year as a team -- they operated as the Tuesday Night Ladies Club prior to adopting the Luna moniker. Over the past years, the intrepid team has sponsored several successful fund-raisers with proceeds benefiting groups like the Colorado Front-Rangers, an at-risk youth organization that helps troubled kids find a positive outlet for their energies. They have donated money to worthy causes such as the Boulder Off-road Alliance, a group that serves as a positive voice for mountain biking, and to the Boulder County Women's Safehouse, an organization dedicated to providing battered women and children a safe haven.
