Spirit Fitness has hired a new marketing director. Don Puerling started at Spirit in May. He's worked in sporting goods for fitness and outdoor recreation equipment manufacturers since 1994. Puerling can be reached at DonP@spiritifitness.com.... Beurlein's Pro Fitness Equipment, the North Carolina retailer formerly known Charlotte Fitness, has hired a marketing manager. Aaron Berger has worked for the company in its delivery department for nearly a year while finishing his marketing degree at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Berger, who can be reached at aaron@bprofitness.com, started in May. The company has also launched its new website and branding at www.bprofitness.com....

Topper Van Backer has left Evo/Smooth Fitness as of June. He had been national dealer sales manager…. Brian Davidson has left BH Fitness. Prior to BH, Davidson had worked at SportsArt Fitness. He can be reached at Bndavidson1@comcast.net or at 425-301-2314….

North Castle Partners, the private equity firm that has owned Octane Fitness since 2005, has awarded Dennis Lee, Octane CEO, the CEO of the Year award. Lee was selected from among CEOs at all North Castle companies (www.northcastlepartners.com). North Castle has a portfolio in consumer-driven products and services with a focus on healthy living, aging and wellness.
