Germany's Schoeffel has sold its women's brand Klepper, as SNEWS® recently said it was considering. Schoeffel, based in Schwabmuenchen, bought the brand in 1996 and as late as February was stating its full support of it as a part of the Schoeffel family. Times change. The new owner as of the end of this year is the cataloger Walbusch, which in 2001 had group sales of 164 million Euros (USD $ 162.6 millon). Walbusch has apparently been a large customer of Klepper for the last few years, according to Germany's trade journal spomo. Schoeffel had sales of 61.5 million Euros (USD $ 61 million) last year, of which 3 million (USD $ 2.9 million) was from Klepper. CEO Peter Schoeffel said his company will fulfill all Klepper orders for this winter.
