Want to give back to the community while at OR Summer Market in a way that will effect positive and lasting change for children? Timberland, W.L. Gore, and the Outdoor Industry Association invite you to head out the door at the Salt Palace South Entrance (200 South) to take part in Project Playground: Outdoor Industry Community Service Project. From 7 a.m. to 5 pm on Saturday August 10, volunteers will be needed to work alongside staff from Timberland, Gore, the Student Conservation Association and OIA to build 10 playgrounds for Salt Lake-area organizations that serve local children. Completed playgrounds will be transported to select SLC area elementary schools that are in need of support. Schools will "win" one of the OR-built playgrounds based on student entries ("Draw your dream playground…"), which will be pre-selected based on need, as determined by SLC school district. Can't make the SLC gig but still want to take part in a service project? Mark your calendars for the following Timberland Service events partnering with retailers around the country: Aspen, Col., Sept. 7 -- Refurbishing mountain hut system; Telluride, Col., Sept. 21 -- tamarisk and vegetation removal from San Miguel River bank; Lake Tahoe, Sept. 28 -- various projects along the Tahoe Rim Trail in Nevada and California; Marin County, Calif., Oct. 5 -- Mt. Tam trail maintenance to address issues caused by Sudden Oak Death Syndrome; Boulder, Col., Oct. 19 -- Valmont City Park project to create natural corridors for critters to move from park to more rural areas west of the city.
