From a dot-com peak of 14 editors in 1999, GORP.com is now down to one content guy, managing (sic) editor Bryan Oettel. In addition, the outdoor recreation and adventure travel Internet company has skimmed back other positions across the board "to weather the storm" after the Sept. 11 downturn in travel and therefore related advertising on its site. "We're trying to reserve our resources and ride out the bad times," Oettel told SNEWS® about the mid-October layoffs. "It's regrettable. The staff we had here was top-notch." Oettel said the company has squirreled away a huge database of varied content, which he can manage, but he said he regrets not being able to fill out areas like international travel.
