Exercising at home isn't a luxury for many these days. The most recent survey by the American Institute of Architects Home Design on trends found that fitness/exercise rooms come in third place as the most popular "special function" room.

First is a home office and second is a media/home theater.

Reasons include privacy, no monthly fees, no commute times, no waiting lines, the ability to have friends over for workouts, and being able to easily workout at whatever time of day suits the homeowner's fancy.

The homeowner who wants a home workout room also has changed. It's not just millionaires or celebrities, but lots of people who just want their fitness convenient.
