All European Union countries as of Jan. 1 must abide by a guarantee on all products of two years. In Germany, the federally mandated warranty has been six months. Some manufacturers, SNEWS® European sources say, are a bit concerned about the two-year mandate since some products, such as hiking boots, can easily be worn or used to shreds in two years even with good care.
