A Nov. 4 story by DMNews, a news service covering trends and information important to marketing and advertising professionals, used a point-counterpoint approach by two marketing professionals to answer the question, "Could social networks replace email?"

While it can be argued that sites such as Twitter and Facebook are providing pre-screened alternatives to email use, and in some respects have begun to cut into email traffic, social networking sites still have yet to prove themselves as an effective means to conduct business, such as marketing and advertising products to consumers. Of course, the operative word here is, yet.
