Cascade Designs, Inc has hired Jeff Bowman in the new position of Vice President, Outdoor and Strategic Planning, effective September 23, 2002. Bowman's primary responsibilities will be to oversee the Sales, Marketing, and Product Development functions of Cascade Designs outdoor group. According to a company statement, Bowman will be charged with addressing the strategic questions that face manufacturers in the outdoor industry, and will help determine key decisions regarding branding, distribution, and acquisition. Bowman was instrumental in the success of both Malden Mills Industries and W. L. Gore & Associates. Bowman directed the development of the Polartec brand for Malden Mills from its infancy to where it became one of the most widely recognized consumer brands in the outdoor apparel industry. Bowman was also responsible for the development of the Gore-Tex suture, a multi-million dollar business for W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. Bowman also served on the Access Fund Board of Directors from 1995 – 2001, and held the post of Vice- President for 2001. Bowman has experience in the medical field as well, providing technical and legal services through Blue Sky Consulting for a large medical products company making implantable medical devices. This experience is of special interest to Cascade Designs, since Cascade develops and markets medical products under the Varilite brand. Cascade’s outdoor equipment and accessory brands are Therm-a-Rest, MSR, Platypus, SweetWater, Packtowl, SealLine, Tracks, and Camp K-9.
