Business Ethics magazine has just announced its 13th annual Business Ethics Awards.

Business Ethics magazine has just announced its 13th annual Business Ethics Awards. The awards are given to companies who exhibit a commitment to social responsibility and ethical business practices. One of three award winners this year is The Timberland Company. Timberland was cited for "community service partnerships and volunteerism that raise the benchmark on good corporate citizenship." A lengthy description of the company's programs mentions the creation in 1993 of a Social Enterprise department, "to manage all service and community investment programs and connect employees to volunteer opportunities in schools, non-profits and community organizations." The article explains how every spring, Timberland puts on a so-called "Serv-a-Palooza," in which employees, family members, business partners, and community residents come together for a day of celebration of service and community." Timberland, the article points out, also has been instrumental in helping to start the City Year program, which is a national youth service organization for those ages 17-24 to do a year of community service. SNEWS® View: What more can we say other than a huge congratulations to CEO Jeff Swartz and all the folks at Timberland.
