Bushnell Performance Optics announced July 5 that it has acquired the Tasco trade name and all intellectual property of Tasco Worldwide Inc. Tasco -- especially well known in the hook-and-bullet market worldwide -- went belly-up with a liquidation plan on May 28 that included the selling of all assets including inventory, furniture, fixtures, equipment, trade names and intellectual property. Bushnell was rumored to be one of the interested parties in the Tasco name at that time. Bushnell is a privately held company funded by Wind Point Partners, a private equity investment firm. SNEWS® View: With the acquisition, Bushnell now has worldwide rights to market and sell products under the Tasco brand. Tasco also gives Bushnell a much stronger international position that will help the company to expand its foothold in Europe, Canada and Australia. Tasco also gives Bushnell a brand that it can begin playing the price-point game with to further expand its U.S. position.
