Bente Skari, the 2002 Overall World Cup champion and Olympic gold medal winner, recently signed a two-year contract to race in Fischer cross-country boots. While Skari has been competing on Fischer skis for over 10 years, the move to Fischer boots is regarded as a milestone for the company. Franz Gattermann, the director of Nordic Racing for Fischer, was delighted with the news, "For the first time, one of our top racers is also using our boots. This is both a reward for the hard work of the past years, and a motivation for us to continue to establish ourselves in the racing boot sector!" SNEWS® View: Fischer first entered the cross-country boot market in 1994, and is now considered to be the third largest manufacturer of boots worldwide. Fischer designs and manufactures its own boots utilizing the Salomon sole which it buys from Salomon. Fischer nabbed Skari from adidas, which has to sting a bit for the parent company of Salomon, the leading cross-country boot manufacturer worldwide. While Fischer's recreational boots are made in China, it would be safe to say that Skari's footwear is most likely European made, probably in Austria.
