The American Society of Magazine Editors has announced the finalists for the 2003 National Magazine Awards. Outside, the only magazine in the history of the prestigious awards to have garnered three consecutive National Magazine Awards for General Excellence missed out on that nomination this year, but still earned nominations in three other categories -- more than any other outdoor/adventure magazine.

Nominations of outdoor/adventure magazines for ASME awards include:

National Geographic Adventure: Nominated for General Excellence; and Leisure Interests for the "Wild in the Parks" article by Jim Gorman and Tim Cahill in the May issue.
Skiing Magazine: Nominated for General Excellence.
Outside: Nominated for Personal Service for "The Shape of Your Life" series by Paul Scott in the May through September issues; Feature Writing for the article "Terminal Ice" by Ian Frazier in the October issue; and Profile Writing for the article "Boy Wonder" by Daniel Coyle in the October issue.
Men's Journal: Nominated for Feature Writing for "The Survivors" article by Hampton Sides in the April issue.

The finalists were chosen from among 1,305 entries by a judging panel comprised of 160 editors, art directors, educators and new media experts. The American Society of Magazine Editors' (ASME) 38th annual National Magazine Awards will be presented at a luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria on May 7.
