Amer Sports’ (HEL:AMEAS) fitness sales, which primarily consist of its Precor brand, jumped 22 percent in the fourth quarter 2011 with strong sales at both the commercial and consumer level.
The Finland-based company’s fourth-quarter fitness sales came in at EUR 72.9 million ($95.1 million as of Jan. 31) to record the 22 percent gain. By region, in local currencies, sales increased 35 percent in the Americas, 20 percent in Europe and Africa, and 16 percent in the Asia Pacific.
For the full year 2011, Amer’s fitness sales grew 17 percent to EUR 232.2 million ($303.8 million), led by a 34 percent boost on the consumer side due to the Precor’s new distribution strategy, which, as previously reported by SNEWS, included lowering prices and increasing retail channels. Precor commercial sales rose 15 percent for the year.
The rise in fourth-quarter fitness sales partially helped offset declines in Amer’s wintersports and outdoor division, which suffered from a slow start to the winter season. Overall, Amer’s fourth-quarter 2011 revenue fell 5 percent to EUR 556 million ($726.9 million).
