Love don't come easy for some people, but retailer REI and on-line dating service Match.com are hoping to play cupids in the lives of lovelorn outdoor adventurers. The two outfits are partnering up to offer REI Adventures trips specifically designed for Match.com members. The courtship began with a pilot trip of paddling and hiking to Costa Rica, which sold out immediately and was deemed by the matchmakers-to-be as "highly successful." Now REI and Match.com are heading down the aisle with their first promoted trip, a 10-day cycling adventure through Ireland, which is also sold out. "The popularity of the initial trips demonstrates there are a lot of single members looking to meet others with an interest in nature and the outdoors," said Tim Sullivan, president of Match.com. Upcoming love-fests include hiking in Utah's Zion and Bryce Canyons; kayaking, biking and hiking in Baja; and a multisport adventure in Hawaii. With prices ranging from $1,195 to $1,595 for seven- to 10-day trips (excluding airfare), REI and Match.com are hoping to give new meaning to the phrase "outdoor lover."
