Ride the elevator with David Verde, showrunner of AWOL.
Have you ever grabbed the remote and noticed that outdoor/adventure travel shows are either celebrities getting lost with Bear Grylls or professional athletes shredding in slow motion? TV has been sending a limited message about adventure travel for years, but AWOL is changing that and showing that outdoor communities are for everyone—no 5-star hotels, celebrity chefs, or esoteric gear required.
AWOL—Air Water Or Land—is about to become your favorite new travel show. Show host Angel Verde (a Honduran immigrant) brings his infectious excitement for adventure to the small screen while sharing stories of people who call these places home and their love for the outdoors.
What sets AWOL apart from other adventure travel shows is its relatable simplicity and authenticity. Angel is your average traveler—blue jeans, walking shoes, and a water bottle. He's no pro at the various activities he tries, but he is enthusiastic nonetheless. Watching Angel make genuine connections with the land and locals will leave you with a sense of longing for the places you can travel to yourself.
The show shares myriad activities that nearly anyone can try while traveling, not to mention, the show offers a glimpse of culture, food, and fare each community has to offer. But if that isn’t enough, we’re showing that the outdoors still need our protection and we share how communities are preserving their natural resources. Do you love drinking beer? In our series preview, we learned how a local brewery in Virginia donates proceeds from sales of a signature beer to help maintain and preserve a stretch of the Appalachian Trail. Want to watch AWOL for yourself? You can stream the series preview on Amazon Prime Video now, which we shot in only three days. Just think what we can do with a week.
