Helly Hansen announced today that its 2013 season will see the addition of the North America mountain, Monte-Sainte-Anne ski resort in Quebec, to its wildly successful Big Mountain Battle roster.

Helly Hansen is the number one apparel choice of premium ski resorts around the world. Its Big Mountain Battle challenges two-person teams to an intense, big-mountain racecourse that spans the entire mountain. Ski patrollers set the route, handpicking thigh-burning hikes, required lifts, and required advanced ski runs.

“Going into its fifth year, Helly Hansen’s Big Mountain Battle series has become a treasured locals’ race as well as a nationally recognized ski event across North America,” said Brady Barry with Helly Hansen’s North American marketing department. “People love that it’s a unique event that challenges skiers and snowboarders to race across their respective mountains’ most challenging and iconic in-bound terrain.”

Helly Hansen’s technology partner, Flaik, will, for the fifth year in a row, provide real-time stats on each team with its real-time GPS tracking device. Race officials will monitor each team’s Flaik device as it transmits
location, speed, and altitude information every few seconds to race officials.

Skiers and snowboarders can opt to race one of three categories: advanced, intermediate, and 12 and under. Ski patrollers will design the courses so that each one consists of designated runs, lift rides, hidden checkpoints, and one to two hikes.

Fernie, B.C. and Squaw Valley, CA will kick off the Big Mountain Battle series on Feb. 9; followed by Taos, NM on Feb. 16, Kicking Horse, BC, Feb. 23; Park City, UT, Mar. 2; Mont-Sainte-Anne, QC, Mar. 2; Killington, VT, Mar. 9; and Steven Pass, WA, Mar. 9. The final competition, Battle in the Bowls, will be held at Aspen Snowmass on Mar. 30. The top team from each event will win $2,000 in Helly Hansen gear, as well as free entry to the final Battle in the Bowls on March 30.

Cost for the event is $80 per team. For more info and to register online, please visit
